Ava is delighted when she discovers a brilliant red poppy in the middle of her yard.

She sits with the little flower in the sunny days of summer and shields it from the rain, until one day the petals start to drop and the tiny flower fades away. But when spring comes again . . . Ava is surprised anew.

This is a lovely story, written by Marcus Pfister, the author of The Rainbow Fish. It is perfect even for very young children to prompt discussions about the poppy as a symbol.

Then print a poppy of your own, or try your hand at creating your own poppy. Sensory rice will be on offer to help develop fine motor skills, as will the dough. There will also be collage and small world activities, all with a poopy theme.

So, come and join all the fun.
